Why the focus on Kisoro and western Uganda?
Kisoro is a popular tourism destination because of its unbeatable location at the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes. The undulating terrain and being home to the endangered mountain gorillas makes Kisoro the perfect choice for many adventurous travelers. National Geographic identified the Virunga Volcanoes among the best places to visit in 2012. The nearby Bwindi National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the park was voted as Africa’s number one birding site by the African Bird Club and TripAdvisor has selected Bwindi as the best tourism destination because the park is home to more than half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. Some of the activities that can be carried out in Kisoro include; tracking mountain gorillas, trekking golden monkeys, hiking the Virunga Volcanoes, the Batwa Trail, visiting Kisoro museum, canoeing at Lake Mutanda, Irish potato farming adventure, hiking Kisoro’s ash and cinders, bird watching at Lake Chahafi and home stays.
We also offer volunteer opportunities to travelers who wish to make sustainable impact to the communities in Kisoro. The volunteers will support different projects in the community which include: teaching conservation education at primary schools, working at local hospitals, Computer training programs, working with farmers, Couching sports teams around Kisoro and Hospitality training at community lodges. The volunteer period can span from two weeks to entire six months.
